David Maisel - 'Library Of Dust'
I found this work on a blog site, it’s a documentary piece based around a derelict insane asylum in Oregon (America)
David Maisel has photographed this building and documented its abandoned hallways and offices, he has also photographed numerous copper cans, containing the cremated remains of deceased patients.
These cans have been forgotten, unclaimed by families, and due to this, essentialy left to stand the test of time. Many show signs of physical change, where the copper has reacted with the human ash.
I love this work because it unveils a very lonely and discomforting truth, but through a beautiful and monumental form.
